Measuring pH in shampoo

Published 18. December 2015

Shampoo is a hair care product used for removal of dirt, dandruff, skin particles, oils and other contaminated particles.

As the scientists behind hair care progressed, manufacturers synthesized chemical additives for use in shampoo as fragrance, foaming agents, and colored dyes. Shampoo is now created and structured towards various hair types, as well as to achieve a certain end result, such as the reduction of dandruff or greasy hair. Both the synthetic and natural ingredients used in a shampoo dictate the pH of that particular product. The pH of a shampoo will alter the natural pH of skin and hair, which ideally falls between pH 3 and 5 and pH 4 and 5, respectively, thereby affecting their physical and chemical makeup.

Hanna Instruments offers a wide range of products especially designed for agriculture, which will increase plant/crop yields and maxmize the plant growth.

Our Hanna Instruments products are extremely easy to use, economical and will help you in measuring critical parameters, such as pH, EC, TDS, temperature, humidity and the quantity of several significant essential nutrients like nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and many others.

All of the above mentioned parameters are crucial for the proper growth of plants and vegetables.

Why would you wait for the laboratory analysis if you can do all by yourself?

Hanna Instruments has also developed advanced fertigation systems for all types of culture.

The importance of variuos parameters for the agricultural sector

Below you can find some hints on the importance of various parameters for tfertigacija-slide slohe agricultural sector.

Why is it important to test the soil?

Plants need the right combination of soluble salts and nutrients to grow and flourish. Trees and plants extract nutrients from the soil and in case those are not properly replenished, then they cause soil deficiencies and this results in the stuned growth and unhealthy plants.

Why is it important to measure pH and EC of the soil?

Kmetijstvo 1pH and Ec are the most fundamental parameters when testing the soil, because they have   great influence on the ability of plants to absorb essential nutrients.

Each soil has its own pH which can be acid, neutral or alkaline. The value of pH extensively influences on the ability of absorbing nutrients.

The optimum value of pH of the soil is around the neutralization (pH = 7) in order to obtain the best absorption. However each plant has its own interval of pH in which it grows best if it manages to properly absorb the nutrients, such as nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus etc.

Therefore, it is essential to measure the value of pH, so that you can choose the right culture for the soil or in order to intervene on time in case  the value changes.

The soil salinity is highly connected with the quantity of minerals in it and it is measured as the value of electrical conductivity of the saturated extract, expressed in mS/cm.

Each plant favours a definite value of conductivity, which can vary from 1 to 4 mS/cm. The low value of conductivity indicates the deficiency of nutrients which causes the deterioration of plants, while the high value of conductivity indicates the superabundance of nutrients which worsens the absorption of plants.

What are the most important parameters to be tested in the soil?

The most important parameters, besides pH and electrical conductivity, are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

Nitrogen is an element of great importance for the plant growth and for the fertilization. The right amount of nitrogen enables the proper growth of the entire plant structure.

Kmetijstvo 4Phosphorus contributes to the formation of bulbs, roots and flowers.

Potassium has a significant role in the quantity of the plant absorbed water and contributes to the immunity from diseases.

When to test the soil?

The soil should be tested regularly, especially prior to seeding, planting and fertilizing as well as when other soil, manure or compost are added.

By testing the soil we can ensure that the plants are in the best condition and we can prevent stunted growth or unhealthy vegetation.
